Dozens of villages in Purworejo are flooded, due to several overflowing rivers

Pojok Nasional. Heavy rains that flushed Purworejo District, Central Java caused several rivers to overflow and cause flooding. There were 16 villages submerged in floods.

Floods inundated 16 villages in 6 sub-districts. Dozens of submerged villages included Klepu Village in Harus Subdistrict, Tangkisan and Krandegan Villages in Bayan District, then Bapangsari Village in Bagelen District.

Another village which was also flooded was Bugel Village, Purwodadi District. Four submerged villages in Grabag Subdistrict are Bendungan, Wonoenggal, Ketawang and Nambangan Villages. While in Ngombol District there are Pundensari and Wingko Sanggrahan Villages.


"There are still other villages in need subdistricts which are also affected, including Polomarto, Kedungsari, Karangsari, Kedung Agung and Kunirejo Villages. In Kunirejo village there is a levee broken," said Head of BPBD Purworejo, Sutrisno, Thursday morning (17/1) / 2019).

In addition to broken levees, flooding as high as 30 to 90 cm is also caused by overflow of river water at some points. Overflowing rivers include the Dlangu, Jali, Dulang, Bogowonto, Dungus and Lereng Rivers.

In order to maintain security, dozens of residents were evacuated by rubber boat to a safer place since last night. Logistics assistance this morning has also been distributed. Residents are also encouraged to remain vigilant.

"Last night we evacuated dozens of residents to a safe place. We appealed to residents to remain vigilant and hope that today will not rain so the floods will quickly recede so that residents can return to their activities," he concluded.
