IDI Responses from Prabowo: Many Doctors are Salted under IDR 3 Million

Liputan Digital. General Chair of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) Chairperson Dr. Daeng M. Faqih responded to the statement of presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto who stated that doctors' salaries were lower than the parking attendant's earnings.

Daeng said that currently there are still many general practitioners in various regions who earn under Rp. 3 million.

He took the example of group 3A doctors who pocketed a basic salary of Rp.2.4 million per month. Added income from the Social Security Organizing Agency (BPJS) of around Rp500 thousand. So that the total income is around Rp. 2.9 million.

"Indeed, there are still many doctors, especially general practitioners who are in the vanguard, earning less than Rp 3 million," Daeng said, Tuesday (1/15).

He said if there were no incentives from the Regional Government, then the doctor's income was less than IDR 3 million. Moreover, currently the doctor's income from the afternoon practice is gone because the community chooses the National Health Insurance (JKN) program.

Daeng said that there are 167 thousand doctors in Indonesia, 130 thousand of whom are general practitioners. According to him, they are doctors who are at the forefront of serving public health.

However, Daeng could not compare the salaries of doctors with the income of parking attendants, as Prabowo mentioned.

"Personally I do not know the income of parking attendants, which I know is the income of doctors from reports of friends in various regions," he said.

However, Daeng did not deny that there were also doctors who had high income, especially specialists who were in big cities. But according to him, there are fewer than general practitioners.

He said several problems in the BPJS, such as deficits or postponing payments to hospitals. According to him, this also affected the welfare of doctors, including other health workers, and disrupted health services.

IDI also hopes that anyone who will become president can correct the adequacy of BPJS funds so that health services will improve.

"BPJS governance should be improved, because we saw payment yesterday to the hospital, and also a deficit," Daeng said.

On Monday (1/14) night, Prabowo delivered a speech entitled 'Indonesia Wins' at JCC Senayan, Jakarta. On that occasion he promised to improve doctors' salaries if they won the 2019 Presidential Election.

He will also try to prevent doctors from experiencing a deficit to get a decent income.

"Now many of our doctors pay less than car parking guards," Prabowo said.

In his speech, Prabowo summarized the program into five focuses on answering economic issues, social welfare, legal justice, Indonesia a safe home, and national character.
